Biography

Tengyuan Zhao, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor of Engineering Geology and Geotechnical Engineering at Xi'an Jiaotong University. His research focuses on the quantitative assessment and management of geohazards in loess regions, including probabilistic landslide susceptibility mapping and hazard impact assessment. He also investigates the risk and reliability of loess slopes and excavations under extreme rainfall. Methodologically, he develops fully probabilistic, data-driven frameworks that integrate machine learning, spatial data analysis and simulation, and Bayesian updating to extract information from sparse site-investigation data and reduce epistemic uncertainty. He received his Ph.D. from City University of Hong Kong, where he also served as a Research Associate. His work has been recognized by the 75th Géotechnique Anniversary Early Career Award and the ASCE–ASME Best Paper Award.
